A newer pillar line with a pretty 45 m slab to start, a single interesting 6a+ crux on P4, and a final orange corner. It makes a good step up from Mignonette.

The route

Overview

A seven-pitch route from 2022 on the low-angle pillar of Kokkinovrachos, running parallel to and left of Mignonette. Most of it is 5c slab and wall, with one steeper 6a+ wall and crack on P4 and an orange corner to finish. The local route developers describe it as a fully bolted training route that also suits climbing courses. It is a natural step up from Mignonette, with the same descent.

Getting there

Approach

To the parking

Leonidio, east coast of the Peloponnese. Park at the Douvari sector parking, the second hairpin on the road from Leonidio to Vaskina, or walk from the village. This is the access camptocamp describes for the neighbouring Mignonette; the Kapi Reborn pages give no access notes of their own.

On foot · about 30 min

Neither source for this route describes the approach. It starts just left of Mignonette, so use that route's approach: about 30 min from the Douvari parking, following red dots right to the cliff and along its base past Ramisi and Mira. There is no name at the base of either route. A 2026 party meaning to climb Mignonette started up Kapi Reborn by mistake, so check the Panjika topo at the base.

Getting down

Descent

Two abseils down the face to the right of the route, 30 m then 40 m. Follow the cairns from the top to find them. The developers refer you to the guidebook for details. This matches the gorge abseil line east of Mignonette (large cairn on the cliff edge, red dots, bushy scramble down to a platform). A 2026 party instead walked off over the plateau to the Vaskina road and got a lift down.

Retreat

Bailing off the route

Bail with caveats

You can abseil the route, but a 2024 report advises against it. P1 is 45 m, so a single 80 m rope will not get you from R1 to the ground in one abseil. There is loose rock beside the line on P4 and broken ground on P3.

Retreat from
A 2024 report says abseiling down the route is possible, without saying from which belays. The sources do not describe how the belays are rigged. No escape ledge or walk-off part-way is documented.
Carry
Two ropes if you want to be sure of getting down the 45 m first pitch. The other pitches are 15 to 30 m. Take a couple of maillons, as the belay hardware is not described.
Basis
Part stated, part inferredA 2024 trip report states abseiling the route is possible but not advised; the rope requirement is inferred from the published pitch lengths.

Safety

Hazards

  • Loose rock beside the line on P4: the developers say to stay on the bolt line.
  • P3 is slightly broken. A 2026 report mentions a crumbling yellow wall visible from the R3 belay.
  • The 6a+ on P4 is steep and pumpy compared with the rest of the route.
  • Abseiling down the route is possible but a 2024 report advises against it. Use the separate abseil line.
  • The second descent abseil is 40 m: an 80 m rope or two ropes are needed.
  • No name at the base; easy to confuse with Mignonette (5c) immediately right.

Sun and weather

Conditions

South to south-east facing, so sunny and warm from early in the day. Camptocamp gives no season for this route; other sources for the wall give roughly October to April. A March 2024 party had strong wind. Reports took about 3 h for the route.

Worth knowing

Tips

  • P1 is 45 m: take the full 15 quickdraws.
  • Route-finding is simple: follow the bolts (2024 report).
  • The route was cleaned from fixed ropes over several days in 2022, but it is still new. Wear a helmet and expect some loose holds.

Open questions

Where sources disagree

  • Length: camptocamp's header gives 200 m, but its own pitch lengths and those on climbinleonidio.com add up to 180 m.
  • Rock on P4: the developers warn of loose rock off the line; camptocamp just calls the pitch very interesting.
