Grazer Bergland

Austria

The Grazer Bergland is the limestone hill country north of Graz in Styria, around Mixnitz, the Rote Wand, the Röthelstein and the Hochlantsch. The walls are low, wooded and mostly south facing, with a long tradition of well-bolted routes of up to a dozen pitches. Bases are Mixnitz, Tyrnau and Frohnleiten, all close to the S35 expressway between Graz and Bruck an der Mur. Spring and autumn are best; midsummer is hot on the south faces.

Strauchdieb

A new (2025) nine-pitch outing on the right edge of the Breite Wand that weaves between the bushes. Three spots of UIAA 5-/5, otherwise easier. Still a little earthy in places.
