Multipitch Atlas

Crete

Greece

Crete has scattered limestone crags, and a few of them have bolted multi-pitches. The best known is the Agiofarango gorge on the south coast near Kaloi Limenes (Heraklion region), a canyon that runs down to a beach. Fly into Heraklion and hire a car. Spring and autumn are best; in the gorge you can follow the shade from one side to the other.

Le Syndrome de Calimero

An accessible gorge multi-pitch with views over the canyon, the sea and the little Orthodox chapel. It has steep juggy walls, a short traverse onto an arête and a corner with a jammed block (take care). The rock is less sticky higher up.
