Multipitch Atlas

Aladağlar

Turkey

The Aladağlar are a high limestone massif in the Taurus mountains of southern Turkey, with bolted multipitch routes on towers above the valleys on its western side as well as single-pitch sport climbing in the Kazıklı canyon. The rock is rough grey and red limestone with flutings and pockets. Climbers base themselves at the campsites near Çukurbağ, including the one run by local equippers Recep and Zeynep İnce, and drive a track past the Sokullupınar camp to the Kazacık camp car park. Routes top out between about 2500 and 3000 m, and trip reports run from May to October.

Climbing on the Kayacık Towers in the Aladağlar, from a day on Turkish Delight and Snow White

Turkey · Aladağlar

Turkish Delight (Türk Lokumu)

Five pitches on very rough red and grey limestone ten minutes from the car park, with long 5c to 6a+ pitches on knobs and water-worn flutings. The only hard climbing is one physical 7a move on the last pitch, which can be aided. Recommended locally as the route to do on this wall.

Climbers on the grey limestone of Freedom, Karayalak Towers, as the morning mist clears

Turkey · Aladağlar

Freedom

Often named as the best route in the massif: seven even pitches of 6a to 6b+ that move from delicate slabs and giant flutings through a steep, rough wall to mountain-style ground at the top. The 6b pitches are no harder than the 6a ones, but the bolts are far enough apart to keep you thinking.
